On the 22nd, STX Engine announced that it will participate in the 2021 Korea Defense Component and Equipment Fair held in CECO of Changwon, Gyeongnam from June 23rd to 25th.
The exhibition is jointly held by Changwon city and Defense Acquisition Program Administration and superintended by the KRIT, and about 300 booths that shows military parts and equipments are available and part localization seminars and defense job fairs, trade consulting are provided.
STX Engine will display the actual 100 hp diesel engine and parts mounted in the Korean army's K9 self-propelled artillery at the exhibition.
As the world’s best weapon, K9 self-propelled artillery’s heart is high speed diesel engine(8 pistons, 1000 hp) and it is the main military engine with high output and performance as well as a very small size. Up Until now, it has localized a total of 2,500 units and thus it is known as the main products in Korea and overseas export markets.
In the government project of K9 self-propelled artillery diesel engine localization posted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Defense Acquisition Program Administration to reduce export restrictions of K9 self-propelled artillery and expand its exportation, recently, STX Engine was selected as the final Korean localization company.
At the exhibition, beside the K9 self-propelled artillery engine assembly, it will exhibit engine parts yet to be localized for 100% localization achievements.
The injector to spray high pressure fuel to the combustion room, the fly wheel to deliver the driving force to the transmission, the bearing that maintains lubrication layers of crank shaft and ensures a smooth rotation and exhibited. These parts are highly technical products and now they rely on imports, but they plan to localize all of them as well as developing the engine.
STX Engine’s CEO Park Gi Mun said, “Localization of defense equipments is the demand from our time and mission,” and added “Beside the K9 self-propelled artillery engine for which we are selected as a supplier, we will do the best to improve domestic defense diesel engine technologies and ensure the mutual survivals with our partners.”
